This exquisite gold proof £1 coin is the third of four designs in the Regional Bridge Series, representing Northern Ireland. It features the Egyptian Arch Railway Bridge, a historic rail bridge in Newry, Northern Ireland. Named for its resemblance to the nemes headdress worn by Ancient Egyptian pharaohs, the bridge spans the Newry–Camlough Road in County Armagh.
The obverse displays the fourth crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The surrounding legend reads:
ELIZABETH·II·D·G REG·F·D·2006
(Translation: Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith)
Engraver: Ian Rank-Broadley
The reverse features a detailed depiction of the Egyptian Arch Bridge, framed by a border representing railway station canopy dags. The denomination "ONE POUND" is inscribed below.
Engraver: Edwina Ellis
This rare gold proof coin is a must-have for collectors of British numismatics, commemorative gold coins, and historical bridge series designs.
