Srang is first appeared as silver coin in 1909(when Tibet was only using tangka) tibetian bank notes was first issued in Jan 1913.From 1955-1959 no more Tibet coins were created while bank notes are being printed.
The bank notes are issued with red seal representing the authority of Dalai Lama (it is a title given by the tibetian people to the foremost spiritual leader of the gelug or yellow hat school of Tibet) and a black seal of new type which bears the inscription “srid zhi dpal bar”
The first notes of new issues were dated tibetian era 1672.These notes previously denominated in “tam srang” later changed to srang .The notes issued between 1951 and 1959 bear no date
The 100 srang notes was introduced between 1939 and 1945 and was used until 1955 .All the tibetian srang denominated paper notes are machine printed on locally made paper at the government of trabshi lekhung using inks imported from India. All denominations are hand numbered in 1959 these issues were withdrawn from circulation and replaced by Chinese bank notes denominated in renminbi Yuan
The backside of the paper Centre panel shows an old man sitting under pomegranate tree, his left hand resting in his lap and holding a rosary, his raised right hand holding a water pot, three jewels are placed in front of him and to his right are seen a pair of deer and a pair of cranes, upper left and right corners are two bats and emblem for good luck
