The Banco de Portugal issued Portuguese Escudo banknotes in 8 different denominations, including this 50 Portuguese Escudos banknote (Infante Dona Maria). They are part of the demonetized Portuguese Escudo banknotes series. The Banco de Portugal started issuing these 50 Portuguese Escudo banknotes in 1968. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1980.
On the brown colored banknote of 50 Portuguese escudos is the image of Infante Dona Maria, Duchess of Viseu. On the back side of the Cinquenta Escudos Ouro banknote is a view on the town and castle of Sintra in 1507.
