Printed in yellow-brown, this side features a portrait of Christian Michelsen, a prominent shipping magnate and the first Prime Minister of independent Norway (1905–1907). He played a key role in the peaceful dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905.
Below his portrait is the crowned coat of arms of Norway, featuring a lion rampant holding an axe—an emblem associated with Saint Olaf (King Olaf II), representing Norway’s royal lineage.
Along the bottom edge, six seagulls are shown flying above stylized waves, with the year of issue printed at the top right.
Lettering (in Latin script):
Designer: Arnstein Arneberg
Reverse:
Also printed in yellow-brown tones, the reverse displays a dynamic image titled “Ship Making Headway,” based on a drawing by renowned Norwegian painter Henrik Sørensen.
To the left, the Roman god Mercury (patron of commerce and financial gain) is shown holding his symbolic caduceus with both hands, reinforcing the themes of trade and economic prosperity.
